CEDAR SHAKE ROOF INSTALLATION - Project Description:
The roof replacement on this home and boathouse was an exterior restoration project. The existing cedar roof was removed and a new cedar roof was installed by All County.
Elements of this project include:
- Western Red Cedar 18 inch Class C fire rated roof shingles were installed.
- These shingles are installed with a 5½ inch exposure, which means that there are three layers of shingle forming a 3-ply watertight surface to repel rain.
- In this coastal area, wind driven rain is an issue, and since this is a cedar shingle roof, we used wide copper flashing in all open roof valleys and around the chimneys and roof vents.
As an indicator of our commitment to our warranty, we had an interesting condition occur after this roof was finished:
- Within the warranty period after the new roof was installed, the roof nails began to rust - discoloring the new shingle roof.
- We used nails which were warranted by the manufacturer to be rust-free, so - needless to say - this situation was unacceptable to us and to the owner.
- For all of our customers, we warranty our materials and our labor and provide that warranty on all of our projects.
- The bottom line: We removed the new roof with its ugly rust streaks, and replaced it with a second new one at no charge to the homneowner.
- As you can see in these photos, the new new roof looks perfect!
